Chicago Vintage

Recently, I was contacted by a bachelor from Chicago to help him design a vintage inspired condo.  These are some of the inspiration photos he sent me....

THIS, folks, is my favorite style. Although I like to work in many different genres, and will do anything a client requests, a pared down vintage look with a European/country/bohemian flavor is what really gets me excited.

The condo is small, but it has excellent bones: hardwood floors, white walls, oak doors, and it's in a groovy area of Chicago (jealous).

I came up with a couple of design plans for the living area. Here is the one he picked:

Behind the sofa there is a wall of bifold closets. I advised him to try his hand at antiquing them with some Annie Sloan chalk paint for this effect:

That will create a great backdrop for the white sofa and surrounding white walls.  Inside the closet, I suggested hiding his office and painting it a moody grey....and it's done!

In the dining room, we are going for this flavor....

The design plan:

Mixed seating from World Market, an indoor outdoor rug from Pottery Barn, farm table from Overstock, factory pendants, and a gallery wall of vintage mirrors behind the settee will give this room a cool vintage vibe. The window wall will have a comfy bench and mix of pillows, similar to the picture on the left.

In the bedroom, he really liked the rustic wood platform bed in the above photo. Since this room is visible from the dining room and entry, I wanted to see some drama. The jury is still out on which of the looks he will choose:

Recycled Barnwood wall.

A dark grey wall with natural wood and white.

Antique door headboard.

Or an easier route:

 West Elm Bed

Schoolhouse Electric Sconces

Flatweave wool rug
 Target pillows
Cashmere throw for luxe

Keep the white walls, add a distressed black vintage dresser, a cool mirror, black and white art, e voila'.

Stay tuned for the kitchen, bathroom, and progress updates. If you are in need of design help, but do not live in the Atlanta area, I am happy to assist on a remote basis!  Please feel free to email me to discuss at lisagabrielson@att.net.

Have a great week!

Lisa
